The Polish erotic thriller 365 Dni, available on Netflix, ends with a cliffhanger that leaves viewers hungry. Is a sequel planned? Watch out, spoilers.
Watch out, spoilers. The following paragraphs reveal spoilers on 365 DNI. If you don't want to know, don't read this.
A new phenomenon film on Netflix, 365 Dni shocked as much as it fascinated audiences with its plot similar to Fifty Shades of Grey. The Polish film tells the love story between Massimo Toricelli (Michele Morrone), a wealthy Sicilian mafia man, and Laura (Anna Maria Sieklucka). Five years after falling in love with her at first sight, Massimo meets her again on vacation and kidnaps her, giving her 365 days to fall in love with him. If the young woman has no feelings for him after a year, then he will take her back to her family. Despite a biased Stockholm syndrome, Laura finally falls in love with him well before the deadline and Massimo proposes to her.
The last minutes of 365 Dni show Laura, pregnant, and her best friend Olga in a car entering a tunnel after a shopping spree for the upcoming wedding. They won't get out and the final images show emergency cars and police near the tunnel. This cliffhanger, well felt by directors Tomasz mandes and Barbara Białowąs, calls for a sequel. And it wouldn't be surprising if there were a sequel and even two, since 365 Dni is actually a literary trilogy written by Blanka Lipińska, like Fifty Shades of Grey. Given the film's success in Poland and on Netflix, it's hard to imagine producers not following up on 365 Dni. With the current sanitary conditions, shooting is slowly resuming and the actors, including Michele Morrone, are hinting on their social networks that a script is being finalized and are just waiting for the green light to shoot.
365 Dni on Netflix: what happens next?
If we follow the other two erotic books by Blanka Lipińska, here is what should happen in the upcomings of 365 Dni. In the second novel, entitled Ten dzień (this day), we understand that Laura has been kidnapped by one of Massimo's competitors, who, let's not forget, is a Sicilian mafia man. He then does everything possible to free her from the clutches of his opponent. Their relationship is damaged as Laura develops feelings towards Massimo's competitor. But Volume 2 ends well and Massimo succeeds in getting her back. However, he questions himself and tries to find a balance between his love affair with Laura and his life as a mafia godfather.
Massimo's English twin also appears in the second novel. In the third and final book, entitled Kolejne 365 dni (365 other days), the big wedding day finally takes place and Massimo and Laura can finally celebrate their love before the birth of their child. Only a few days after the wedding, Laura is shot. Massimo must then make a difficult decision: save Laura's life or the baby's life. For the moment, the literary trilogy is unpublished outside Poland, but the author Blanka Lipińska has confirmed in Instagram account that her novels will be translated into English, for the time being.
