Do you know how to hide a hashtag on twitter? Well, why should you sometimes do that….
Hashtags, Twitter's trademark, allow internet users to access tweets without being subscribed to the users who use them. Nevertheless, this hashtag system can quickly backfire on us, especially if one of them is associated with some form of harassment against us. With this in mind, here's how to secure and manage your privacy on Twitter by hiding a hashtag.
Also note that hiding a hashtag can be interesting if you don't want to be exposed to something you don't like or to avoid being spoofed about the outcome of the latest trendy series!
How to hide a hashtag on Twitter?
Open Twitter and click on the "More" icon in the navigation bar on the left side of the window.
From the drop-down menu, then select "Settings and Privacy".
On the page that opens, click on "Content Preferences"
Under Safety click on Muted
Then go to the "Muted Words" page.
At the top right of this window there is a "+" icon.
At the top of this page, you can write the words you want to hide and select the different parameters that suit you, then click on Save
You can choose not to hide a word at any time. From the "Muted Words" page, simply select the "Mute" icon next to each term to unmask a term or hashtag.
Note that masking on Twitter does not differentiate between upper and lower case. It also does not differentiate between terms and hashtags. If you hide "Politics", the hashtag "#Politics" will also be hidden from Twitter. Finally, recommendations that you receive via Twitter or e-mail will de facto exclude the terms that you have chosen to hide.
