Téléfoot, the new French channel, will team up with Netflix to propose an aggressive offer on the pay-TV market (less than €30 per month) combining football, series and cinema.
Netflix and the new French channel Téléfoot have joined forces to offer a particularly comprehensive range of series, movies and sports broadcasts. This formula will be offered for less than €30 per month. A deliberately aggressive price for a formula that could hurt the competition.
Mediapro still has a lot underfoot for Téléfoot. After announcing a brand and production agreement with TF1 at the beginning of June, followed by a deal with the Altice group at the beginning of the week for distribution of its channel on SFR and co-broadcasting of the European Cups with RMC Sport, a new partnership was recently validated at the highest level. According to our information, Mediapro has reached an agreement with Netflix, the American giant of video on demand service, around a commercial offer that should help both of them to conquer subscribers on the French market for the period 2020-2024. This agreement will enable the future Téléfoot channel, which will be launched on Monday 17 August and will broadcast 80% of L1 and L2 as well as the Champions League and Europa League for the coming season, to couple its offer with that of Netflix.
Through this partnership, SFR becomes "the 100% football operator, the only one in France to offer its subscribers all French and European football". Indeed, French ISP subscribers will be able to benefit from League 1 and League 2 via Téléfoot, and from the Champions League and the British Premier League on RMC Sport.
After SFR, a partnership with Netflix
After these two successes, the MediaPro group has another major partnership in its boxes. Indeed, MediaPro has joined forces with the streaming giant Netflix. According to L'Équipe, the Spanish group has already found common ground with Reed Hastings' company.
This union is going to lead to the implementation of an ultra-aggressive offer, proposed at less than 30 € per month, with a one-year commitment. At this price, the user will be able to benefit from the entire Netflix catalogue with 4K option, as well as all the matches broadcast on Telefoot. An all-in-one package, combining cinema, series and sport.
As a reminder, discussions had also started with Facebook and Amazon. On this subject, Jaume Roures, CEO of MediaPro had declared: "We will never announce an agreement before the contracts are signed". This is no longer the case.
