Twitter downloaded more than a billion times on the Google Play Store
The Twitter application has just reached the one billionth downloads from the Google Play Store. Six years after Facebook, the Android application joins the ranks of the most popular tools such as Instagram, Snapchat or WhatsApp.
But why did it take so long?
It's about time! This July 2020, Twitter officially joins the top of the most popular applications: the social network has been downloaded more than a billion times via the Google Play Store. Twitter is now joined by Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and WhatsApp, whose popularity explodes with the coronavirus crisis. Indeed, this last application has reached more than 5 billion downloads since the beginning of the year!
It has therefore taken six years longer than Facebook to Twitter to reach this milestone. And there are many explanations for this, the first being that the social network has far fewer users: 166 million per day compared to 1.734 billion for Mark Zuckerberg's platform.
Maybe it's also because the mobile web version of the social network is as good, or even better in some aspects (dark mode, lightness, speed, etc.) than the application! So it's not surprising that it had a hard time finding its audience...
