Google Chrome: Google unveils its new extension called Ad Transparency Spotlight to see how the ads follow us seamlessly
Web advertising is everywhere. If Internet users are aware of it, they don't necessarily know how it works. That's why Google, in an effort to increase transparency, has developed a new extension designed to help Internet users understand how advertisements follow their every move on the Internet and are therefore able to know what they like and dislike.
Ad Transparency Spotlight: For greater control over personal data
"Our new Ads Transparency Spotlight (Alpha) extension for Chrome is part of our ongoing initiative to give users more visibility and control over the data used to customize ads," Google said in a release.
At this time, the extension is still only in beta and only works for ads served by Google. Eventually, the U.S. firm hopes that the entire industry will apply its "ad disclosurescheme" and become more transparent about how it works.
The goal of Ad Transparency Spotlight is in no way to limit the number of ads displayed on websites, but rather to make Internet users understand how the ads work in order to retrieve information about them and to follow them during their Internet browsing.
