The American electric car manufacturer Lucid claims to have developed a series of technological innovations that will enable the Air to have a range of more than 517 Miles on a Single Charge. Enough to overshadow Tesla. But the dream is still waiting to come true.
"A few years ago, we unveiled our alpha prototype of the Lucid Air, with the promise of a range exceeding 640 km which was the reflection of our technology at that time," says Lucid Motors in a press release. In the meantime, we have achieved a series of technological breakthroughs that allow us to reach an unparalleled level of fuel efficiency," he continued.
Lucid would have been able to exceed 517 Miles Range with the Air
The manufacturer's CEO goes on to say:
"I am pleased to announce that we have achieved an EPA estimated range of on a Single Charge while significantly reducing the capacity of our battery pack, which reduces the weight of the vehicle, its cost and increases the space inside the cabin".
To achieve this result, the manufacturer Lucid Motors cites the vehicle's 900 V electrical architecture, an air resistance coefficient of 0.21, and innovations from its Atieva battery branch.
When it goes into production, the vehicle promises an impressive technical specification. The Lucid Air is expected to deliver some 1,000 horsepower, with a 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds. Beyond that, the manufacturer promises a level 3 driving assistance system called DreamDrive. On paper, Lucid has everything to worry Tesla.
Elon Musk's cars offer a range close to 650 km for the most powerful models. But you shouldn't dream too fast: Tesla's difficult debut shows how much Lucid still has to prove everything, to go from prototype to series production. Lucid Motors is due to say more about the Air on September 9 - including its price and configurations. The first deliveries should take place in 2021, if the firm manages to meet the deadline.
