Downloading Vivaldi installs a customizable web browser with many extra features, in which all Chrome extensions can be used.
This makes Vivaldi an interesting alternative to Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, but also Mozilla Firefox. Currently Vivaldi version 3.4.2066.90 is available for free download.
Vivaldi browser with amazing features
Version 3.4 contains an improved context menu that can be customized by the user. Tabs can be reloaded automatically at periodic intervals if desired. In addition, the game "Vivaldia" was integrated directly into the browser. Vivaldia is described as a runner game in the arcade style of the 80s. Details about all new features can be found in the official blog entry.
Vivaldi - Opera alternative with extras
The Vivaldi browser is a "descendant" of Opera. This is, of course, because Vivaldi was created under the leadership of Jon von Tetzchner, the former boss and co-founder of the Norwegian browser forge. Faithful users of Opera will rediscover some of the features they are familiar with in Vivaldi as well, but this one has some new ideas of its own.
For example, Vivaldi supports customizable keyboard shortcuts, mouse gestures and a quick-start interface, but the "Popular Page" selection (Speed Dial) already known from Opera has now been introduced by other providers.
Vivaldi is especially interesting because of its new functions, for example the possibility of grouping tabs (Tab Stack): You drag one tab onto another, whereby two (or more) narrow lines appear above the tab. This allows you to create several thematic groups, for example, and thus provide more order. The name of the groups can be freely chosen. Similarly practical is the panel on the left side, which can display downloads, history, bookmarks and even complete websites.
It is also possible to store notes directly in the browser. These allow you to create a text including URL and screenshot, which allows you to record (better than with a conventional bookmark), what distinguishes a certain website. In a special bookmark mode, Vivaldi hides disturbing elements such as advertisements or videos of a website. The tile view allows you to display several selected tabs next to each other.
Vivaldi versatile customization
In addition, the Vivaldi user interface can be extensively customized. In addition to color themes, this also includes the option of placing the tab bar around the bottom of the window or on the sides.
Visually, Vivaldi is in line with the current trend towards "flat" or industrial design; it also works heavily with color-coded tabs and similar elements.
Vivaldi also supports H.264 in HTML5 videos, and the installation of chrome extensions. But apart from that, not all planned features are available yet: In the future, the browser will have a mail client. According to the creators, a lot of things will be implemented based on suggestions from the community.
