Sony has assigned the "Airpeak" brand to reflect its aspiration to contribute to the further evolvement and the creation of the unprecedented value
Sony dominates the mobile photo sensor production market. The Japanese manufacturer divided the company in 2015 to make its sensor division independent and since then they have continued to grow. Now Sony announces Airpeak, a new project that will focus on producing sensors for drones.
Until now Sony did not have a different brand for their sensors, but in this new path have decided to shape it with a different brand to try to differentiate. As the company explains, they will seek to "create unprecedented value through their imaging and detection technology, as well as 3R (Reality, Real Time and Remote) technologies in the area of drones.
Sony to launch image sensors for drones
Airpeak is the continuation of the manufacture of mobile cameras but for drones. Aerial photography is a growing field and Sony wants to "support video creativity as much as possible".
Details of the first sensors have not yet been explained, but it is anticipated that new sensors will appear with wider angles and better detail that could help both improve the overall quality of the drone camera and expand the availability of these sensors so that different brands of drones can offer upgraded cameras.
Sony's promise is that they will "help improve the efficiency and cost of various industries. As with its mobile sensors, where Sony incorporates them into other brands' devices, with Airpeak they will also work with drone manufacturers. At the moment they are looking for allies and brands that want to incorporate them in their future models.
In addition to the image quality of the sensor itself, Sony will promote its sensors for their reliability and safety. The company has opened an official website with the announcement of the new project and aims to spring 2021 when all the details of this new project of sensors for drones will be released.
