Parents will hopefully be able to better connect with their kids by having a more thorough understanding of what they’re watching
The Kids Activity Report feature is currently in the testing phase.
Netflix is working on a new feature designed for parents, the Kids Activity Report. This new tool is currently being tested with some subscribers and will allow parents to receive an "activity report" of their children on the platform.
Today, many children enjoy the Netflix catalog on their own, whether it's on the living room TV while parents are teleworking or on their tablet. So it's not always obvious what they like. That's why Netflix has developed a tool designed to help parents find out what their kids like.
Better understand children's tastes
The Kids Activity Report allows parents to find out what programs their children are watching on the platform via their Kids account. The report sent by email to parents includes not only the movies and series watched, the most watched content, Netflix recommendations, but also their favorite characters. In this way, parents can better understand their children's tastes.
"Most parents know what their kids like, whether it's Halloween costumes or toys they ask for at Christmas. But we don't always know what these programs are about," says Michelle Parsons, Family Division Manager at Netflix.
Towards a family-friendly profile
In parallel with the tests on this new tool, Netflix is working on a new type of profile. At the crossroads of traditional and kids profiles, the new "Family" profile only includes films and series suitable for everyone. This makes it easier to choose the right movie or series for a party.
Netflix does not specify in which countries the Kids Activity Report and family profile tests are being conducted, nor when these new features could be offered to all platform subscribers.
