Netflix has confirmed that is testing a Top 50 list, expanding on the Top 10 it rolled out earlier this year.
After launching its Top 10 at the
beginning of the year, Netflix is testing a Top 50 list that allows Internet
users to discover more popular movies and series.
On Netflix, the suggestion algorithm is as important as the catalog. It's the algorithm that suggests content that matches your personal preferences.
And for a long time, Netflix even seemed to want to hide information about its content, so that people would choose movies or series that match their preferences, but not based on what's popular. Gradually, however, Netflix began to become more transparent.
As of this year, SVOD even displays a Top 10 for each country. "Whether you like books, music, movies, or television, the Top 10 lists are a great way to find out what's popular. Now we're rolling out a new Top 10 feature on Netflix," Netflix explained.
And soon this Top 10 could even become a Top 50. In a Twitter post, Saqib Shah, a journalist at S&P Global Market Intelligence, said Netflix has reportedly confirmed that it is testing the new feature.
Netflix has confirmed to me that is testing a Top 50 list, expanding on the Top 10 it rolled out earlier this year. In keeping with that feature, there is a Top 50 row for all content on the home page, and seperate lists for films and TV shows. pic.twitter.com/kzVVgNeRfW— Saqib Shah (@eightiethmnt) November 25, 2020
After the Top 10, here is the Netflix Top 50
"Netflix has confirmed to me that it is testing a Top 50 list, expanding on the Top 10 it deployed earlier this year. ...there is a Top 50 line for all content on the homepage and separate lists for movies and series," the publication says.
"As we've seen with the Top 10, members like to know what's popular when they choose what they want to watch. We're testing whether it's useful to display an extended list of popular titles from around the world. As with all our tests, we will only launch it if members who find it useful,"
In other words, at the moment, it is not known whether this Top 50 list will be deployed to all users later. But if users liked the Top 10, they should also send good feedback for the Top 50.
In France, Netflix is even inspired by traditional Television.
To help users find content to watch, Netflix has even decided to launch a feature inspired by traditional television, but only for French users.
Like a TV channel, this feature, called Direct, allows users to watch movies and series according to a defined program. Netflix would have launched Direct because "in France, traditional TV consumption is very popular. Viewers like the idea of programming that avoids having to choose what they are going to watch. »
